COTTINGHAM RANGERS – SMOKE FREE SIDELINES POLICY
Football is enjoyed by millions of people around the world, but the harmful effects of smoking are well known and can negatively impact players, coaches, and spectators. For this reason, Cottingham Rangers are committed to adopting a smoke-free sidelines policy to protect the health and wellbeing of everyone involved in the game.
Our smoke-free sidelines policy means that smoking is not permitted in or around the playing area, including designated spectator zones. This applies to all areas within the University of Hull facilities.
The benefits of smoke-free sidelines are significant. Most importantly, the policy reduces exposure to second-hand smoke, which is harmful to both smokers and non-smokers. Second-hand smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, many of which are known to cause cancer and other serious health conditions.
Creating a smoke-free environment also supports the health and performance of our players and coaches. Smoking can reduce lung capacity and endurance, directly affecting athletic performance. By removing smoking from the sidelines, everyone can breathe more easily and focus fully on the game.
Finally, smoke-free sidelines help set a positive example for young supporters. Children and teenagers who see adults smoking at sporting events may view it as socially acceptable behaviour. By providing a smoke-free environment, Cottingham Rangers aim to promote healthy lifestyles and discourage smoking among young people.
