Back again and going into the new league with confidence, our first opponents being the team we scored our goals and points against in the first part of the season!! Setting up with a different formation to what the boys are used to, playing 2-3-1 seemed to help the boys support and compliment each other!!! It was a confident start with May and Huyton testing a very good keeper. The deadlock was broken when the Rockford defence couldnt keep up with May's pace and when he cut inside they had no option but to foul him for a penalty. Shaw stepped to take the a struck it hard and low to the keepers right, the keeper managed to keep it out but couldnt keep out the rebound from Shaw. The second half was a well marshalled display of defending and counter attacking football. Kirby played the solo stricker role perfectly and held the ball up well bringing the middfield into play. Another day he could had at least a brace to the goal count.
The Second game started with same intensity with the Rockford keeper pulling off save after save. On Rockfords rare attacks Mountain had his troops well positioned and focused to deal with anything thrown at them!!!
Again it was a break down the left by May which drew the foul for another penalty, this time Shaw didnt need two attempts he buried it 1-0. With the 1-0 cushion the boys started to enjoy there football creating chances for fun!! With the rearguard of Melles-Sawyers and Blatch stopping everything in there tracks the result was never in doubt then just to make sure Huyton popped up with the deisive 2nd and the season was off to a perfect start!!!
